Former Manchester United striker, Robin van Persie has criticised manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following the Red Devils’ 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United in the Premier League on Sunday.

Matty Longstaff scored the only goal of the encounter in the second-half to give Newcastle all three points against Solskjaer’s men at St James’ Park.

But Van Persie has now questioned whether Solskjaer knows how to improve the confidence of his players after their defeat to Newcastle.

“You can see here Solskjaer is struggling there, if I’m really honest, during that interview,” Van Persie told Optus Sport.

“And I get it if you’re manager of Manchester United during this period of time. Therefore he’s searching for words, maybe he chose a few wrong ones there.

“Because as a player, what does that mean, ‘sorting the players’ heads out’, what does that mean?

Meanwhile, speaking after the match, Solskjaer said:

“It’s my responsibility. I need to sort their heads out.

“Young boys lacking confidence, they need some help from experienced players and staff.”

Solskjaer’s side will now take on Premier League leaders, Liverpool in their next fixture after the international break.
